How To Get Rid of Puffy Under-Eye Bags
More than 100,000 Americans undergo eyelid surgery (known in the medical world as “blepharoplasty”) each year.* Involving the removal of excess fat, skin, and muscle tissue surrounding the eyes, the procedure can create a fresher, more alert, and more youthful facial aesthetic – especially when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon.
Eyelid surgery can be used to combat a variety of aesthetic facial concerns, not limited to drooping eyelids, sagging skin, and dark “bags” that appear under the eyes. Many patients are frustrated with these “bags,” which are often the result of aging, genetics, or smoking.* Thankfully, a successful blepharoplasty can significantly reduce their severity with long-lasting results.
Additionally, eyelid surgery has undergone major advances in the last 10 years with the addition of fat grafting to the peri-orbital area. Fat grafting can address the “tear trough” deformity, which so commonly adds to the aged look of the lower eyelid. Fat grafting can also help correct the “sunken” or hollow appearance of the upper eye and reduce pigment in the overlying skin, reducing the dark look of the lower eyelid.
With this in mind, not every patient will be eligible for or interested in blepharoplasty. In such cases, patients may be better suited for one of our med-spa treatments, such as a comprehensive skin care program or injectable for the “tear trough.” Dermal fillers that can combat under-eye bags include JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA®, as well as select products in the Restylane® line.
